Frequently asked questions

Straight answers about who we are.

If something here is unclear, call us on +27 61 518 7197 or email support@africa-care.com and a person will answer.

01Who are you?

Africa Care is AfricaCare (Pty) Ltd, a South African company registered under number 2026/558136/07 and a subsidiary of Tesmax (Pty) Ltd (Reg. No. 2025/950877/07), based in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal. Our leadership and registered details are on the About page.

02What exactly do you provide?

Software. Africa Care is a clinical documentation and practice-management platform for healthcare practices — consultation notes drafted by CARLEX AI, patient records, referrals, secure clinical messaging, scheduling, document generation and ward/notice boards.

03Does Africa Care provide healthcare?

No. Africa Care is healthcare technology, not a healthcare provider. We do not employ treating clinicians, we do not run a practice, and we do not enter into a clinician–patient relationship with any patient.

04Who is it for — and who is it not for?

It is for registered healthcare professionals and the practices, groups and hospital departments they work in. It is not a consumer health app, and it is not a service patients sign up to for medical advice.

05Does it replace healthcare professionals?

No. It does the typing, not the medicine. Every clinical judgement remains the professional's.

06What does the AI do, and what does it not do?

CARLEX AI drafts clinical documentation from what the clinician dictates, and suggests ICD-10 codes for confirmation. It does not diagnose, treat, prescribe, or make clinical decisions, and it never communicates conclusions directly to a patient. The full breakdown is on How CARLEX works.

07Who is responsible for clinical decisions?

The treating healthcare professional, without exception. Every AI-drafted output is reviewed, edited where necessary and approved by that professional before it enters the patient record. They retain full clinical responsibility for patient care.

08Can the AI get things wrong?

Yes. Drafts can be incomplete or misinterpret dictation, which is exactly why clinician review is a required step rather than an optional one.

09How is personal and health information handled?

Patient information is processed on the authority of the practice or clinician, who is the responsible party under POPIA; Africa Care acts as an operator on their behalf. Storage, security, retention, third parties and patient rights are set out in our Privacy Policy. Africa Care is designed and operated in line with POPIA — no organisation certifies POPIA compliance, so we make no claim to hold such a certification.

10What does it cost?

Three tiers — GP at R650 and Specialist at R1,500 per practitioner per month, and Enterprise at R3,000 per month for hospital groups and multi-practice organisations. Billed monthly with no minimum term. Practices onboarding before the 19 September 2026 launch get their first month free, and no card is required to start. Full terms are on the Pricing page.

11Is everything on this site available today?

No, and we label it. Anything not generally available carries a visible badge — "Founding practices — onboarding now", "Launching 19 September 2026" or "In development". If a feature is not marked as available, you cannot sign up for it yet.

12Where are you based, and where do you operate?

Suite 4, Arbour Arch, 3 George MacFarlane Lane, Town Hill, Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal, 3201, South Africa. We currently serve South African practices.

13How do I contact you?

Call +27 61 518 7197, email support@africa-care.com, or use the contact page. Please do not send patient-identifiable information by email — contact us and we will arrange a secure channel.

14What are the terms?

Our full Terms & Conditions, Privacy Policy and Compliance Framework is published in full and available as a PDF. The contracting party is AfricaCare (Pty) Ltd, a subsidiary of Tesmax (Pty) Ltd.

✳ Clinical responsibility

Africa Care is healthcare technology, not a healthcare provider. CARLEX AI™ supports registered healthcare professionals with documentation and practice workflows.
